About the NTJFA

The NTJFA was established to provide an avenue for junior football in a club based environment across Northern Tasmania.

The Association’s philosophy has always been to promote participation in a safe and enjoyable environment.

Currently the NTJFA conducts rosters for mixed under 9’s, under 10’s, boys under 12’s (2 divisions), under 14’s (2 divisions), under 16’s (2 divisions), and girls under 11’s, under 14’s and under 17’s. Traditionally NTJFA games have been played on Sundays over a 14-16 Home and Away roster. At the end of the Home and Away roster, finals are played for youth teams, and Gala Days are held for juniors.

The NTJFA is an incorporated body and following the adoption of the new Constitution in 2022, is managed by a Board made up of 4 Elected Directors and up to 3 Appointed Directors. The Elected Directors are voted in for two-year terms by the Voting Members being the Member Clubs.

The NTJFA has 12 member clubs:

our history

The Northern Tasmanian Junior Football Association was formed in 1974 as a junior AFL competition.

Originally the competition was based in greater Launceston and has now evolved to offer opportunities for children from clubs across regional North and North Eastern Tasmania to learn the skills of football and participate in an inclusive fun environment.

Prior to 1974 junior football was played mostly in school rosters and numerous Mini Leagues.

The competition now has 12 member clubs who field teams in under 9 to 16 boys and girls from under 11 to under 17.
